Born in Texas, raised in Oklahoma, Kellye Rae is a stay at home mom of 2, who has always found a way back to music.

In 1995, her older brother walked her to the local record store, where she purchased Jewel’s debut album, Pieces of Me, and an obsession with songwriting began.

She’s always loved country music, but never wanted to stay completely in the lines of it. Raised on ‘90s country and its story-driven songwriting, you can hear that influence in her music, while her lyrics tend to stay in that darker storytelling territory.

One of the most personal examples is her song titled “sobering”, a ballad written in the aftermath of her husbands drug induced psychosis. Born out of the most difficult times of their lives, it wasn’t intended to be pretty, but to make sense of the surrounding chaos. The song has since been brought to life with an orchestral arrangement by acclaimed string arranger and multi-instrumentalist, Stevie Blacke, whose work has been heard alongside artists such as P!nk, Chappell Roan, Madonna, Olivia Rodrigo, Snoop Dogg, Dua Lipa, and Miley Cyrus, and countless others.

Kellye Rae has been described as an “alternative rock Faith Hill”, a comparison she’s both humbled and honored by. She finds therapy in writing about her real life; divorce, grief, addiction, loss, and all the mess in between. Alongside her producers Sweekman and Ben Bullock, they have captured the sound she hoped and dreamed these songs would one day become.

When she isn’t shuttling kids to school, forgetting to move the laundry over, or burning dinner, you can find her at her piano, exactly where this EP was written.

As a teen, she was a Top 70 contestant on Fox’s American Idol, returning two seasons in a row as a golden ticket recipient. Those experiences are a huge part of her story, but she now draws inspiration from the season of life she is currently in: motherhood.
